Silicon-Based Magnetic Beads

Silicon-based magnetic beads have a shell-core structure. The internal magnetic core makes the magnetic beads have the ability to be actuated in magnetic field, while the abundant silanol groups (Si-OH) outside can specifically bind the nucleic acid in composite samples through salt bridge, hydrogen bond, hydrophobic interaction and van der Waals' force under high salt and low pH condition. After impurities are washed away, the nucleic acid in high purity can be eluted by buffer with low salt and neutral (or weak basic) buffer such as TE or pure water. Silicon-based magnetic beads are especially suitable for the high-throughput and automatic extraction of nucleic acid.
